The Japanese-themed ISC Coffee Session on 5 March 2009 provided a fun platform for international students to learn about one another’s culture.

It was an afternoon packed with Japanese song and dance, hot ocha, snacks and confectionery. But more than that, the Japanese-themed Coffee Session organised by the International Student Centre (ISC) on 5 March 2009 provided a fun platform for students to learn more about one another’s background and culture, and form friendships across cultures.
Says Wilson, a Singaporean and a CEE undergraduate: “This is my first time attending an ISC Coffee Session. It’s pretty fun. I came not knowing anyone but can now count a few Japanese among my friends.” For fellow Singaporean Danny, an EEE undergraduate and first-timer at ISC Coffee Sessions, the session was a timely introduction to Japanese culture and a great way to prep him for his upcoming exchange at Akita University in Japan. Adds Julie, an American at NTU on the Singapore Stanford Programme: “I like it that everyone’s included in these sessions. I tell my family and friends back home that I am always meeting students of diverse cultures here at NTU.”
