What is Temporary Sharing?
Matriculated students may apply to stay with their friend(s) in a fully occupied single or double room. This arrangement is known as Temporary Sharing.
If you are not successful in getting a place in a hall, you may apply to temporarily share a room during the interim period. You should not be a resident at any Hall of Residence.
You may only temporary share at a fully occupied room and must have previously applied for hall accommodation via the Hall OnLine Application System (HOLA).
Conditions of stay
- You will be charged $20/- per month as lodging fees
- You will pay $5/- (subject to GST) as administrative charge
- You will not be provided with furniture
- Should you be offered accommodation by any Hall, you will accept it, failing which this temporary arrangement of accommodation with your friend(s) will cease
- You are required to pay a JCRC subscription fee of $10/- (subject to GST) and may participate in activities organised by the JCRC
- If one or both of the rightful occupant(s) who agreed to your stay withdraw(s) from the room, your status as a temporary occupant will automatically cease, and you will be required to withdraw from the room
- Should either/both of the rightful occupants in the case of a double room or the rightful occupant in the case of a single room withdraw consent to sharing the room with you, you will be required to withdraw from the room
- You are to abide by the Rules and Regulations governing the Halls of Residence
- The SAO/Hall Office reserves the right to add to or vary the conditions listed above.
Application Procedure
Applications should be addressed to the Hall Officer and submitted at the respective Hall Office. The written consent of the rightful occupant in the case of a single room and both rightful occupants in the case of a double room must accompany the application.
The charges that apply are as follows:
- $20 per month of occupancy
- $5 administrative charge + GST
- $10 JCRC subscription + GST
What is Illegal Squatting?
Any person caught residing in a Hall without prior approval from the Hall Office is an illegal squatter. Illegal squatting is a serious violation. The illegal squatter and the rightful occupant(s) will be evicted from the Hall and barred from hall accommodation thereafter.
